ND BrainSpace: Wellbeing — What Gets in the Way (and What Helps)

Last week’s ND Brainspace was such a good one! The new layout and lighting made it feel really cosy and open — and of course, the trusty sticky notes were back in action, covered in brilliant ideas as always 💛

It was a open, honest chat about what supports our wellbeing… and what sometimes gets in the way of it. Here’s a quick download from our ND Brainspace Wellbeing session in Stratford last Wednesday, 5th November.

🌿 What Gets in the Way (Wellbeing Blockers)

  • Energy & sleep: tiredness, late nights, low motivation

  • Time & overwhelm: distractions, time blindness, family/childcare, “too much noise”

  • Confidence gremlins: fear of failure, feeling self-conscious, worrying what others think

  • Money & access: cost of classes or activities

  • Dysregulated eating: skipping meals, binge–guilt loops, sugar crashes, or feeling out of sync with hunger cues

  • Boredom & stuckness: doing the same things, too many options, procrastination

  • Sensory & environment: overstimulation, busy spaces

It’s a reminder that wellbeing isn’t simple — especially when you’re navigating neurodivergent energy, time, and sensory patterns. You’re not lazy, broken, or doing it wrong. Life’s just… a lot sometimes.

🌈 What Actually Helped (Wellbeing Workers)

  • Nature & movement: walks, yoga, running, football, sea dips, dog time

  • Connection: talking therapy, time with friends, playing with kids, community groups

  • Creativity & escapism: crafts, music, gaming, fantasy books, laughter & dancing

  • Mindful moments: breathing, meditation, sound baths, mindfulness

  • Self-kindness: slowing down, small treats, praising your body, setting smaller goals

  • Practical tweaks: timers, AirPods or earplugs, gentle structure (e.g. Finch app), flexible routines

So many brilliant, creative ideas came up — and they all point to the same truth: wellbeing doesn’t have to be expensive, perfect, or Instagram-worthy. It just has to work for you.

💛 A Little Extra

We also met StephyM, who’s offering 10% off her trauma-informed coaching packages for Brainspace attendees. It’s a gentle, compassionate space to explore movement and fitness in a way that feels safe and affirming.
If you’re curious, just mention Brainspace when you contact her.

🌤 Next Up: Surviving the Seasons

Our next ND Brainspace session is on Tuesday 2nd December, where we’ll be exploring how to survive the seasons — with tips, humour, and hopefully a bit of warmth (literally and emotionally).

Bring your blankets, tea, and honest brains. Hope to see you there!
